Over 300 million people live in the worlds deserts and semi-deserts, where a vegetated system like the Ecosphere can be difficult to build and expensive to mantain. At the same time buildings in these dry climates with extremes of heat and cold benefit greatly from the principles of earth-sheltering. For these reasons we have developed Oasis™, designed for deserts and arid regions. Desert sand, one of the planets most abundant materials, is generally considered useless for building because its grains are rounded like tiny marbles, instead of angular as in beach or river sand. However, stabilized and in combination with Biotekt's extremely strong composite shells, it becomes an ideal sheltering material.
